CAPTAIN JAMES HARVEY JOHNSON

It is Captain Johnson now. Harve was appointed a Cadet to the Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1907. He was prepared for the examination tothe Academy by Prof. Mohn of the S.B.M.S.*, who is now Principal of that school.

Captain Johnson graduated from West Point in June 1912, when he was appointed by the President**, a Second Lieutenant, in the Coast Artillery of the regular army. He was first sent to Fortress Monroe***, where he took a course in gunnery. He was then sent to San Francisco, California, where he took a course in mine planting. In August, 1915, he was sent to Philippine Islands, where he was located on the United States Mine Planter Knox, at Fort Mills, P. I.

He was promoted to be First Lieutenant in 1916, and was appointed Captain in August. 1917, and relieved from the Mine Planter, and is located at Goade Island, forty miles from Fort Mills, Manilla Bay. He hopes to be in command of a batter of railroad artillery in France.

Captain Johnson is the only Laurel County boy to ever graduate from the Military Academy at West Point.
