Helen Anna Catherine Burge, long-time resident of Ponca City, died after a brief stay at Via Christi Village (Westminster). She was 92.

She was born October 1, 1918, in Kildare, OK, to Baltzell and Regina (Mans) Burge. She was the youngest of three daughters with her brother being the last of four children. Helen was raised in the "family built" home in Kildare. She attended school in Kildare and Newkirk, OK, graduating from Newkirk High School in 1936. She moved to Ponca City, with her mother, after the death of her father in 1958. Helen continued to live with and cared for her mother until her death in 1974.

Helen was a long-term employee at the SH Kress store in Ponca City where she filled many job roles. In the early years while working for Kress, she served as a reliable transport from Kildare to Ponca City for many of her friends and neighbors. After the Kress store closed, she continued her respected work ethic into her seventies as an employee of S&H Green Stamp store until it too closed. She made many life-long friends with many of her fellow employees. She was a good friend and neighbor to many for "she never met a stranger". Since she had lived in the area for so many years and always took interest in other people, she had a knack for knowing the family relationships of others.

Helen enjoyed making rag rugs for her family, playing cards with family and friends, and watching rodeos and baseball. While listening to country and western swing music was a joy, an even greater joy was dancing to it, especially with her brother as her partner. She was a great fan of St. Mary's basketball for she attended and transported many of their youth through the years. She also enjoyed traveling with friends and family to many music events, scenic roads and camping trips.

As Helen never married, and no children of her own, she was a loving Aunt involved in the activities of her eight nieces and nephews, which extended to be known as "Aunt Helen" to their many friends. In her last years, she tried to remain independent but slowly accepted assistance from family and friends. She often thanked her nieces and nephews for their loving care as she said, "she taught them well while growing up".

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church of Newkirk until her move to Ponca City where she became a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Helena's Guild at the church, where she enjoyed assisting with many church events and helping others in need. She especially enjoyed the social aspect of the group and looked forward to the card parties.

Surviving are her brother and his wife; eight nieces and nephews; Ten grandnieces and grandnephews; and six great grandnieces and grandnephews; one step grandnephew and five step great grandnieces and grandnephew.
