Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as a Corporal in Company F, 12th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at the Battle of Nashville, Tennessee on December 16, 1864. His citation reads “Capture of flag of the 44th Mississippi Infantry (C.S.A.)”. His Medal was issued on February 24, 1865.
