Brother of Louis Zamperini, the US Olympic athlete and WW II POW, whose story was told in the book "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption" by Laura Hillenbrand.

Passed away on May 15, 2008 at the age of 92, at his home in San Clemente, with his loved ones by his side. He was born in Dunkirk, New York, but grew up in Torrance, graduating from Torrance High School, earning a sports scholarship to USC. He excelled there, graduating Magna Cum Laude, in the spring of 1932. He launched his coaching career back at Torrance High School, for 10 years. Following his enlistment in the US Navy, at the onset of WWII, he returned to coaching for some 30 years, at Banning High School in Wilmington. Pete loved sports... all of them, especially USC football and basketball. Without doubt though, his greatest love was his sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Doris Aull....
