Obituary- Norwich Courier Wednesday, Jan 5, 1842 Vol XX Issue 42 Page 3
"At Guilford, on the 17th ult. Mrs Dorcas Dutton, wife of Reverand Aaron Dutton, in the sixty-first year of her age. She was the daughter of the late Mr Samuel Southmayd, of Watertown, and great grand daughter of Rev John Southmayd, first minister of Waterbury. IN the death of this mother in Israel, her family have experienced a severe affliction, and the Christian community a severe loss. Though her bodily constitution was peculiarly susceptible of disease, of which she had frequent attacks, yet she possessed great energy of mind, and fixedness of purpose, and was uncommonly useful in the sphere of action appropriate to the mother of a family and the wife of a minister. "She was the virtuous woman, in whom her husband's heart did safely trust. She did him good and not evil all the days of her life." The children , whom with tender affection she had nurtured, and with untiring assiduity and great self-denial assisted to educate, rise up and call her blessed. The religion of Christ, of which she had been for many years a consistent professor, was her support during a protracted illness, and her consolation in the prospect of speedy dissolution. A day or two before her death, in answer to an inquiry proposed to her, she remarked that she had felt such a deep interest in every thing which pertains to the Redeemer's kingdom, that she could not doubt her love to him, or her interest in him. Her last words, as her family stood beside her, were, "I love you all, I love every one; but especially my Savior."
"Her end was full of peace. 'Twas rather the deep humble calm of faith Than her high triumph; and resembled more The unnoticed of a clear day's sun, Than his admired departure ina blaze of glory Bursting from a clouded course."
