Robert Leahy Fair, a native of San Francisco, CA, attended St. Paul's Grammar School and the High School of Commerce. He received his commission as an Army officer in 1944. As a 1st Lieutenant, he was assigned to the Central Interrogation Center within the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section in Japan. Fair served in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart medals and an Army Commendation Ribbon for meritorious service. He commanded the 1st Battalion, 6th U.S. Infantry in Fort Hood, TX. As Commander of the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, Fair was instrumental in establishing a "Holiday Inn" in the Tay Ninh province so that soldiers returning from combat missions had an opportunity to shower, do laundry, repair their gear, and get a good night's sleep, a hot meal, and a little R & R. Fair was quoted, "We want to make the man who struggles in the field day and night, week after week, feel like a king for a couple of days."

"The Colonel is a doer," one brigade member said. "When he decides something, that means we're gonna have some action."

Fair later served as the Commanding General of the 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood, TX and V Corps in Germany. Lt. Gen. Fair will be remembered for his 32 plus years of service to our country and by his devoted and loving family. Thank you, Sir; ..... mission complete -- rest in peace.

Lt Gen. World War II, Korea, Vietnam (HHC, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army, Cu Chi-Colonel-Chief of Staff, 1968-1969).
