John Gross born 1839. This may be the John Gross of that age
who was working as an apprentice machinist in the 1860 census for Kingston, Ulster County, New York. In the 1870 census he is living next door to Barzill and has a wife, Jennie. In the 1880 census, he is widowed and living back in the household with Barzill, Rhoda and Hattie.
