Obituary | James E. Terrell, Aged Resident of City, Is Dead | LCAP, May 5, 1928
 
James Erwin Terrell, aged 79 years, 9 months, and 18 days, died at his home at 1308 Ryan Street in Lake Charles, Saturday morning at 1:12 o'clock. The funeral services will be held at the family residence this afternoon, Rev. R. H. Wynn, pastor of the Broad Street Methodist church officiating. The body will be buried in Graceland Cemetery at 5 p.m. The deceased is survived by his widow, a sister, Mrs. W. W. Wynn, Noble, La., three sons and two daughters; F. M. Terrell, San Maria, California; W. E. Terrell, Pasadena, California; G. A. Terrell, Gahagan, La.; Miss Fannie Terrell, Lake Charles, La.; Mrs. C. G. Bennett, Monroe, La. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Terrell was an old resident of Lake Charles, coming here from Belton, Texas in 1903. He was born in Pike County, Mississippi July 17, 1848 and moved to Louisiana with his parents in 1850. The family relocated to Coushatta where the deceased grew to manhood. Much of his time was spent on the farms along Red River, and as manager of cotton warehouses and shipping concerns in Shreveport, during the early days when steamboats piled that river as the artery of commerce. He was married to Miss Eleanor Law, December 13, 1873, the same year in which he moved to Bell County. Texas, where he resided until coming to Lake Charles in 1903. In this city he had up until the time of his death, been largely interested in real estate and building projects.
