Abner and Margaret owned 200 acres of land South of the South Fork of the Obion River in Weakley County, Tennessee. In 1837, the land on the south side of the Obion River became a part of Gibson County.

This land was inherited from Margaret Patton's father, Robert Patton, who divided a grant of 1,000 acres given to him by the State of North Carolina equally among his children. This grant was for services he provided to the patriot cause during the Revolutionary War.
