Henry was the president & founder of the Griesedieck-Western Brewery Company. A member of a family that had been in the brewing business for generations, he was born in Germany. He was only 15 years old when an uncle, Paul Griesedieck, who had immigrated to St. Louis, returned to Germany & persuaded Henry to come with him to the U.S. Upon his arrival, Henry went to work at his uncle's National Brewery Company. He later went into business for himself in 1896, establishing the former Central Brewery Company. He sold that business shortly before he founded the Griesedieck-Western Brewer Company in Belleville, Illinois.
