In 1959, he plotted to kill Angelo Bruno, who was his main rival within the Family. When Bruno was informed of the plot against him, he went to the Mafia Commission and requested permission to act against Antonio Pollina. The Commission decided to remove him and make Bruno the new Boss of the Philadelphia Family and advised him he could have Pollina murdered for plotting against him. However, instead of killing him, Bruno demoted him, thereby avoiding a war with the Pollina supporters. He died in 1993, at age 100.
