Gone Up to Her Coronation
A long useful life was ended when Mrs. Melissa Ann Hines spirit slipped from its earthly moorings on Novmenber 3rd at 2 p. m. at the home of her son, J. O. Hines of Flynn.
Services were held at the First Baptist church of Normangee, Saturday, November 4, at 2 p. m. with Rev.'s C. E.Bullock, W. H. Hodges, and J. B. Davis, officating. Davis Cozart Undertaking Company, directing.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Jack Murff, Elmer Edwards, Wiley Cozart, Howard Hines, Bonner Murff and J. D. Hines Jr.
The three pastors spoke of the worthy life of this "Mother of Israel," and offered suitable scriptures and prayers, and urged the large family to think of her beautiful life as continuing in that celestial Home promised by God to His faithful ones, Her favorite hymns were sung.
Mrs. Hines born in Troy, Alabama, August 25, 1853. She was married to James C. Hines, November 30, 1871 in her native city and state where they made their home for four years. They moved to Bedias, Grimes County, and later moved near Normangee where they remained.
The husband passed on January 4, 1904, after which Mother Hines lived with her children. A daughter died at the age of 21. The remaining children are as follows:
C. D. Hines, Frankston; J. D. Hines, Normangee; J. C. Hines, Flynn; H. M. Hines, Huntsville; Mrs. Minnie McClure, Tyler; Mrs Lois Murff and Mrs. Pearl Edwards both of Houston; Mrs Della Lewis; Harlingen; Miss Alma Murff, Flynn; Mrs. Daisy Hopkins; Ft. Worth; Mrs. Beulah Cozart, Normangee; all of whom were present at their mother's funeral. She leaves also 31 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, many of whom were present. Also a sister Mrs. Ella Wilson of Whitewright.
Mother Hines was a devout Christian. She united with the Baptist church at about 15 years of age. Those beautiful words in Proverbs may truly apply to her life. " Her children arise up and call her blessed," and the fragrant influence of her useful quiet life of good deeds and kindly ways will bless others always. Interment was in Hopewell Cemetery, and the new mound was banked with floral offerings.
No sorrowing thought can reach thee, No grief is thine today. God gives thee joy for mourning, and He wipes all tears away. She will be waiting in that golden city, where Holy Angels wait, And when we cross the River she will be waiting at the gate." To welcome her loved ones Home.
