Albert grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland near Washington D.C.; educated at Olney Friends School, a Quaker boarding school, and at Michigan State studying one semester in Lucerne, France. He served in the Air Force; lived in Jamestown and Fargo, ND (where he earned a Karate Brown Belt.) He worked at Jamestown's North Dakota State Hospital, as an EMT Technician in Fargo, ND, and servicing aircraft in Anchorage and oil wells on the frigid 'North Slope' of Alaska. He moved to Morristown in 1990 to focus on caring for his parents, Robert G. & Jane R. Gronewald.
He was a private person, but also a kind, sweet, gentle, direct, compassionate and giving soul always on the lookout for opportunities to show small every day kindnesses. He was a caregiver in one form or another for much of his life. He looked for simplicity in human complexity, relished joke telling, took joy in daily and ordinary fellowship with family and friends, was inquisitive (constantly reading) and loved walking local Parks. He was an avid tennis & baseball fan and had catholic tastes in music. He enjoyed attending local churches including Lost Creek Friends Quaker Church in New Market. Albert was an organ donor, a final gift to his fellow man. Albert Gronewald was 'good people'.
A small, informal 'memorial potluck picnic' is planned for Morristown friends at Panther Creek State Park at the Smallman Shelter, Friday, July 8th from 4-8pm.
