He was an athlete who played all sports well. Mr. Blackwell retired from the Tool & Gage House in Charlotte. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church - North Campus. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Blackwell faithfully loved his family, church and country.
The service to celebrate the life of Donald William Blackwell will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 13, 2010 at McEwen Funeral Service - Derita Chapel with Dr. Steve Livengood officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
Private burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park - Harrisburg.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sylvia King Blackwell; daughter, Kellie Dayvault; son, Donald 'Chip' William Blackwell, Jr.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Nell King and Margaret Overcash.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078.
