THE DEATH OF RICHARD P. COLE
(Killed in Auto Crash Near Frankfort)
Richard P. Cole, 86, of 622 Alabama street, Lafayette, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday in the Clinton county hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident earlier in the afternoon. Cole, who came here to attend commencement exercises of a grandson, was riding with his son-in-law, J. B. Derrick, of Frankfort, when their car was crowded off the road by a truck two miles west of Frankfort. Both were brought to the Clinton county hospital. Cole suffered severe facial injuries, broken leg, and shock. Derrick is still a patient in the hospital. Born March 18, 1856 in Stockwell, he was the son of John F. and Ellen (Shaw) Cole. He was first married in 1878 to Josie Royer, who died in 1891. He later married Mrs. Angie Wines, who died in 1940. In the retail meat business, he had lived in Lafayette the past 38 years, recently being employed at the Ideal grocery. He was a member of the Lafayette Trinity Methodist church and a life time member of the K. of P. Surviving are a son, Lewis P, of Hoquiam, Wash., a step-daughter, Mrs Georgia Derrick, Frankfort; a brother, S. J. Cole, Lafayette; two sisters; Miss Alvina Cole and Mrs. Ella Helvie, Frankfort. The body was taken to the Bradshaw funeral home at Lafayette where friends may call after 3 p.m. Saturday. (Lafayette J & C, May 29, 1942.)
