Contributor: Vindicator I (49013635) 27 August 2019:

Cpl Bilsing served with the 770th Squadron, 462nd Bomb Group operating from West Field, Tinian, Mariana Islands. He was the (Tail Gunner) on board B-29, Serial Number 42-65336, named ‘ASSID TEST II’ during a mission to Kobe, Japan on 5 June 1945. Near the target his plane was damaged by AA Artillery and enemy aircraft. Initially believed that five (5) members of the crew were KIA during the attack or crashed with the plane. And, seven (7) members of the crew bailed out of the plane and were captured becoming POW. All seven were transported to a POW camp in Osaka, where they were all executed by the Japanese just prior to the surrender of Japan.

Further evidence now suggests Cpl Bilsing also initially survived and was executed while a POW at Osaka Shinodayama Parade Ground on 20 July 1945.
