Mrs. Sarah Agnes Harris Chappell was born March 21, 1920 in Spring Hill, TN, the daughter of the late Otho M. Harris and Jimmie Thompson Harris.

She was the wife of the late Maury Chappell who preceded her in death on December 25, 1997.

Sarah was a 1939 graduate of Central High School and during her high school years had worked for F.W. Woolworth. She retired as a clerk from United Cities Gas Company and had previously worked for Central Service Utility Building Company. She was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she had taught Sunday School.

Mrs. Chappell is survived by two step-sons: Wayne (Margie) Chappell and Albert (Ying) Chappell, both of Columbia; a step-daughter-in-law: Judy Chappell of Huron, IN; one brother: Larry (Joyce) Harris of Hudson, FL; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Chappell was preceded in death by four brothers: Nolen, Elzie, Cecil and O.M. Harris and a sister: Lena Cortner; one step-son: Maury Paul Chappell, Jr., along with two step-grandchildren: Connie Brown and Kim Walker.

Mrs. Chappell passed away on Sunday evening at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services conducted Wednesday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Steve Robertson officiating. Burial in Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.

Pallbearers Kacy Brown, Richard Chappell, George Harris, Buddy Harris, Mark Chappell, Erik Chappell and Cameron Chappell.
