JAMES PIERCE ABBOTT DIES IN THE DALLES - was prominent county stockman; ill for long peroid - (Daily of Sept 10) James Pierce Abbott, 82, prominent Wasco county stockman, died at a local hospital here Saturday, evening. He had been in failing health for a number of years.
Mr Abbott, a large scale sheep operator, had been in the stock raising business continuously since coming to the county in 1877 from Osceola, Indiana where he was born July 19, 1852. He homesteaded in the Wapinitia vicinity, where other members of his family had preceded him, and became during his long residence a well known figure of that district.
Surviving him are a widow, a son, James, and a sister, Mrs Eliza Forman, all of Wapinitia. A grandchild and a numner of nieces and nephews, and two foster children, Mrs Olga Murphy of Oxnard, Cal., and Mrs Edith Colpitts, Klamath Falls, also survive.
Funeral services from the C.R. Callaway & Sons chapel at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, with Rev R.A. Hutchinson of The Dalles officiating. Pallbears will be members of the IOOF, lodge at Maupin, of which the deceased was a member. He was also a member of The Dalles Elks, who will conduct the graveside service at IOOF cemetery.
