Thelma Caldwell

Thelma Gragg Caldwell, 81, of Conover, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley.

Born on April 27, 1927 in Avery County, she was the daughter of the late Windom Gragg and Vinie Coffey Gragg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Caldwell; sister, Omie Coffey; and grandson, Curtis Gragg.

She is survived by her sons Kenneth "John" Gragg and his wife, Barbara of Conover, Marshall "Butch" Houston and his wife, Trish of Conover, and Grover "Jay" Houston and his wife, Patsy of Hickory; grandchildren Ritchie, Shane and Yvonne; step-grandchildren Chad, Kathy, Donovan, Nathaniel and Sharon; great-grandchildren Chris, Cody, Dallas, Tylor and Timothy; step-great-grandchildren Aaron, Taylor, Andrew, Devin, Dylan, Dawson, Caitlin, Dustin and Brandon; great-great grandson Curtis; brother Gene Gragg of Lenoir; and sisters Mildred Ivey of Monticello, Ga., Ruth Houston of Hickory, and Ruby Crisp, Carolyn Poteat, Nelda Greene and Janice Smith, all of Lenoir.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 in the chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory with the Rev. Jimmy Greene and the Rev. Larry McAmis officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.

The family will receive friends today, July 30, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory.

Pallbearers honoring Mrs. Caldwell are Shane Houston, Nathaniel Roberts, Chad Fox, Richie Gragg, Christopher Gragg and Dallas Gragg.

Memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658.
