BAILEY - Mabel H., retired program director
Mabel H. Bailey, 80, retired program director for the radio and television department of the Council of Churches, died Friday (Dec. 21, 2001) in Niagara Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.
The former Mabel Harte was born in Sodus, Mich. After her marriage to Dr. Worth A. Bailey, she lived in Louisiana, Iowa and Texas before moving to Cheektowaga in 1956.
She held a number of paralegal positions and was actively involved in political groups. From 1964 through 1968, she was a member of the Cleveland Hill School Board, serving as president during her final year.
After retiring from the Council of Churches in 1986. Mrs. Bailey was an active member of the Foothills Trail Club, volunteered with the Western New York Peace Center, traveled internationally with Elderhostel and served on the condo board at her residence in Williamsville.
Her husband died in 1983.
Survivors include three daughters, Christine Tayntor of New Providence, N.J., Catherine of Buffalo and Judith Stumpf of Wilmette, Ill.; a son, William of Franklin, Mass; a sister, Martha Holliday of Lafayette, Ind.; two brothers, Paul Harte of El Cajon, Calif. and Herbert Harte of Barberton, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Lutheran Church Home, 217 E. Delavan Ave. Burial will be scheduled in Michigan.
