She is the daughter of Charles Jefferson Odom and Margaret Jane Hughes.


She married Charles McClung Barker on December 31, 1899 in Boyd, Wise, Texas. They had 9 children: Della (1902-1985), George (1904-Unknown), Leland (1906-1980), Charles (1908-1974), Thelma (1910-1978), Golda (1914-1997), Venora (1916-1995), Ovie (1918-1918), and James (1922-1987).


1910 Census: She was living on Spring Creek Road in Throckmorton, Texas with her husband and children.

1930 Census: She was living in Baylor, Texas with her husband and children. She was a housewife.

1940 Census: She was living in Baylor, Texas with her son James. She was widowed. She was working as an operator. She rented the farm they lived on. It states the highest grade level she completed was 11th grade.


Her death certificate states she was DOA and she was complaining about chest pains.

Mrs. Ovie Barker died at her home on East McLain Street in Seymour. Services were held in the First Baptist Church. Attending the funeral were all of the children and grandchildren. She married C.M. Barker on 31 December 1899 in Decatur, Texas. The couple lived in Young and Throckmorton Counties before moving to Baylor County in 1920. They settled at Red Springs and continued living there until her husband's death. Since that time, she had lived for the most part in Seymour. Survived by her children - Don Barker, George Barker, James Barker, Mrs. H.J. Hamilton, Mrs. Leland Murray, Mrs. Curtis Lyon, Mrs. J.C. Holman, Mrs. E.R. Coleman; two sisters - Mrs. Maggie Wallace, Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barker was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour.
