G. D. Cozart, Normangee Merchant Passed Away December 22.
The entire community was saddened when on Thursday before Christmas the word came that Mr. G. D. Cozart had passed into the Land of the Beyond. For many years Mr. Cozart had been one of our leading business men, though for the past two years he had been rendered unable to attend to business matters. Then Thursday afternoon came word that he had passed quietly out.
George Duncan Cozart was born July 29, 1873, at Leona Texas. He united with the Church of Christ in 1893. He was married to Miss Beulah Hines in 1907. He with his brother T. A. Cozart was engaged in general mercantile business in Flynn for a number of years. Some twenty years ago they came to Normangee, and have remained one of the leading houses of this place. During the 20's, T. A. Cozart went to Abilene, and the business here was continued by G. D. Cozart.
Funeral services was held at the Church of Christ Friday afternoon, and interment was had at Hopewell Cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Evangelist C. E. Wallace of Austin, assisted by Rev. C. E. Bullock of Normangee, J. M. Day Undertaking Co. had charge of the funeral arrangements.
Mr. Cozart leaves his wife and three children, Davis Cozart of Normangee, Mrs. William Parrish of Normangee, and Wiley Cozart of Houston, one grandson Bill Parrish of Normangee, Six sisters survive, Mrs. Lettie Ritchie of Port Arthur, Mrs. Mattie Nixon, Mrs. Beatrice Thompson, Mrs Clara Hayden, Mrs. Eleanor Brown, all of Normangee, Mrs Beulah Seale of Centerville. One brother survives, T. A. Cozart of Abilene.
All business houses in Normangee closed during the time of the funeral, as a tribute to the memory of a fellow business man during the past twenty years.
