Interview notes with Everett Costner: "We extended runways while we were there (at Watton). We put down a metal mesh. We had brick barracks. At my last base, Old Buckenham, Jimmy Stewart (the actor) was still there. He was a combat commander. At Watton, I remember being invited to meals with local English families, such as the Finchums. One of my buddies there was John St. John, who played the organ in Chapel and was from New York...I went to local towns and cities, such as Bury St. Edmonds, Ipswich, Ely, King's Lynn (one of my favorite spots. I stayed at a Pub), Norwich (I went to the Hippodrome and the Guild Hall had a dance on Saturday nights), and London (I lay in Hyde Park and watched V-1 flying bombs go over)...I did not go over to the continent, except on one flight..."
