MRS. MURPHY'S FUNERAL WILL BE TOMORROW
Kirksville Resident Since 1918, Was 92 Years Old
Funeral services will be held in the First Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 for Mrs. W.S. (Marvin Wilhelmina Quattlebaum) Murphy, 92, of Kirksville who died Saturday afternoon at 5:30 in the home of Mrytle [sic] Bell of Route 3, Kirksville. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Ralph M.G. Smith, pastor of the church, with burial in the Forest cemetery.
Born in Columbia, S.C., on July 4, 1869, she was the daughter of Dr. Joseph and Lucie (Merritt) Quattlebaum. She was graduated at Winthrop Training School, now Winthrop College. She began her 27-year teaching career before her graduation. Her last six years were spent at Winthrop College. On the advice of her osteopathic physician from Kirksville, she resigned from teaching and came to Kirksville to study osteopathy, arriving in Kirksville in 1918. Following her marriage to W.S. Murphy she discontinued her studies at the osteopathic college.
Mrs. Murphy was united with the Ridge Spring, S.C., Baptist church and moved her membership to the First Baptist church in Kirksville shortly after arriving in 1918. An active Baptist all her life, Mrs. Murphy was keenly interested in world-wide mission projects and personnel. She led others to share this interest, in recognition of which she was chosen by the Inter-Church Women of Kirksville as Missionary Mother of the Year some years ago.
Surviving are a step-daughter, Minnie Toleman of Talluqah, Okla., and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Bearers will be Donald Dudgeon, Lloyd Christman, Roland Nagel, Rex Miller, Dwane Cole and Cloy Whitney.
