Kathryne Andrews Larrick 87, Wellsville, KS passed away Monday, Nov 22, 2010 in her home.
Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday Nov 27, 2010 at Wilson's Funeral Home in Wellsville. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 Friday at the Wilson Funeral Home Internment will follow in the Wellsville Cemetery.
Kathryne was born June 28, 1923 in Ryan OK the daughter of George W and Nola (Cantrell) Andrews. She was born at the family home beside the Red River, which separates Texas and Oklahoma, where her family were farmers.
When she was 3 years old the rural school of Irving OK consolidated with the Waurika OK schools. Her father believed his children who have more educational opportunities if he moved the family to Waurika a county seat.
The family moved to Waurika, where her father was a school teacher and self-taught lawyer.
Kathryne graduated from Waurika High School in 1942 and still belongs to the alumni association there, providing scholaships for graduating seniors.
Her lifelong dream was to go to college, but with 10 children in the family and the depression at that time, her father tearfully said, "You know I can't help you, but learn all you can about everything you can".
Kathryne did that by taking classes, reading and keeping up with current affairs. Four of her five brothers worked their way through college, earning masters degrees and serving in the armed forces.
On May 4, 1944 she married Minor Larrick in Duncan, OK. Where he was serving in the Army and stationed at Fort Sill, OK.
After they married, Minor returned to Fort Sill before being deployed to Europe in WWII. Kathryne returned to Tulsa where she worked at Douglas Aircraft.
Minor spent two more years in the Army returning to the US in Jan 1946. Upon his return they moved to Edgerton, KS where they lived for 10 years
In 1955 they moved to Wellsville, where they raised their family and farmed. Kathryne and Minor were married more than 50 years before his passing in 1995
Kathryne is survived by a daughter Linda K Good of Wellsville, a son and his wife, Steve and Sharon Larrick of Baldwin City, six grandsons one granddaughter, several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, daughter Jane Jolene Larrick (1973) two brothers, Howard and Bill Andrews and four sisters Alice Woods,Gene Wilkinson, Mercededs Beck and Mae Bulgier.
