Israel Bunyan DUNAWAY was the son of James E. and Minerva L.(Short) DUNAWAY, both born in Georgia.

He married Nova Lena Culwell, Sept. 3, 1902. They was living in Eastland County TX in 1910, and were later living in Oklahoma.

He was an ordained minister of the Free Will Baptist Church, and was elected moderator of the Eastern Association of Oklahoma in March of 1940. He was one of the founders of the Association. The area was north and east of Muskogee, and took in the country around Tahlequah.

It is believed he came from the Texas West Fork Association to OK, probably from Eastland, where his family is shown in the census. His name was in records and old news items in the Ada Weekly of Pontotoc, Oklahoma. At what point he moved to California is not known. He was probably a bi-vocational minister, as many were in his time. He and his wife had several children, among whom are: Raymond; Weldon R; John B; Nova A; Allene; and Maurice (dau).
