Born in Chapel Hill, NC, grew up in Plainfield, NJ. Grad. 1931, UNC-CH. Conducted a big band until 1941, first employer of Peggy Lee. Became an insurance broker in Raleigh, NC, continued playing tenor banjo until his death.
