William Henderson Hundley (b Mar 10, 1835 in Limestone County, AL d Mar 31, 1864 in Limestone County, AL)is listed at age 15 in the 1850 United States Census living in the household of his father, Dr. John Henderson Hundley, in District 3, Limestone County, AL (Roll M432_8, p 77B, image 374). He is next listed in the 1860 United States Census at age 25 living in the household of his father, Dr. John Henderson Hundley, in Division 1, Limestone County, AL (Roll M653_13, p 450, image 456). William Hundley's wife Fanny May Hundley age 23(1835-1922) and their infant son William May Hundley age 3 months (b 1860) are also listed as part of the household.

The 12th Regiment of Alabama Cavalry CSA was formed from a unit recruited by Lt Col William Henderson Hundley. His military service record was as follows: enlisted as a Lieutenant Colonel; Commission in Company S, 1st Cavalry Regiment Alabama; Commission in Company S, 12th Cavalry Regiment Alabama; promoted to Full Major (as of 12th Battalion AL Cavalry); promoted to Full Lieutenant Colonel (American Civil War Soldiers, database, Ancestry.com). Lt Col William Henderson Hundley died from an injury received from a fall from his horse while patrolling the Tennessee River near Triana, AL. Riding at full gallop he hit a low hanging limb, was badly injured, and died later. According to one of his descendants, Lt Col Hundley went home to die from his skull fracture, but recovered sufficiently to return to his regiment in Atlanta. One morning, while he was pulling on his boot, a blood clot to the brain killed him.
