Will was drafted 24 July 1918, 165th Depot Brigade, Machine Gun. Co, 85th Inf. Reg.; Discharged 02 February 1919. Service no. 2229618. He had been a conscientious objector, but went into the Army anyway, with much soul searching. When Armistice was declared, he was on a troop train to go overseas. Will died in 1920 of pneumonia contracted while working as a fireman. (Information from his brother Frank McCarty's family.)
