Joseph graduated from Hastings High School in 1933 and attended Hastings College for 2 years. On May 23, 1936, he married, Lydia Hoffman and she preceded him in death in 1994. During his professional career as a civil engineer, he lived in 10 different states and 25 different cities. He retired after 45 years in Bryan, Texas in June of 1977. He returned to Hastings, Nebraska in 1982. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Rite #317, A.F. & A.M., and Scottish Rites.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lydia.
