Mabel Young was born in Millville, NJ and shortly after moved to Marmora, NJ where she grew up. She graduated from Ocean City High School in 1934. She moved to Norristown to stay with her aunt and uncle and took a job at Adam Scheidt Brewery where she met her future husband George Shannon, her boss. George and Mabel had two daughters; Susan (Shannon) Dean and Peggy Shannon. After her daughters were grown she worked for 22 years at West Norriton Township Municipal Authority as a manager. She retired in 1988.
