Philip Eugene Shelton, 77, of Unionville, Mo, passed away Monday morning, November 22, 2010, at the Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, MO. He had been a resident of the Putnam County Care Center for ten years. The son of Oris Estes and Jessie Loretta(Thompson)Shelton, Philip was born in Pueblo, CO, on September 5, 1933. On November 7, 1959 he married Helen Jean Bland of Milan and she survives at home. They had two sons, Brent Eugene and Brian Philip, both of whom survive in Unionville. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Britany Leota Diveley of St. Joseph and Kristen Renay Shelton of Unionville, MO. A grandson, James Brian Shelton of Ottumwa, IA also survives as well as a great granddaughter, Bailey Faith Diveley and great grandson, Devon James Shelton. Other survivors include his mother, Jessie Shelton of Unionville, a twin sister, Phyllis Ann Dunlap of Covina, CA, and two nephews, Jeffrey Alan Dunlap and his wife Patty, and Bradley Drew Dunlap and his wife Melani and their families.

Preceding Philip in death were his father, Estes Shelton, and his brother-in-law, William Wayne Dunlap. When Philip was young his family moved to Port Huron, MI, where he graduated from High School. He also attended Kirksville State Teachers College. He later attended a refrigeration school. Philip served two years in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany. In addition to farming, Philip was employed by Young Radiator in Centerville, IA, for several years until his retirement. He had a love for horses and loved to go to horse sales. He alos enjoyed going to car auctions. Graveside services for Philip Shelton will be at the Unionville Cemetery in Unionville, MO, on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at 2pm. Philip's request was to be cremated and his cremains will be interred at the Unionville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family and may be entrusted with Playle and Jones Family Funeral Home, Unionville, MO.
