J. M. (Dick) Johnson, Springfield contractor for many years and a native of Christian county, died at the home of a son, L. Dana Johnson, Bates avenue, at 7:10 a.m. yesterday. Mr. Johnson was 87 years old and came to Springfield with his parents in 1858. As a young man, Mr. Johnson worked on construction of the state house and later directed the building of a number of residences in the city. Until he suffered a heart attack last January, Mr. Johnson had been in excellent health. He retired from the contracting business twelve years ago and until recently had made his home with another son, J. M. Johnson, jr. Mrs. Johnson, the former Mary Ann Hood, died in 1916.
