Mary R. Porter, 94 of Cortland passed away November 17, 2009 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center , surrounded by family. Mrs. Porter was born April 25, 1915 in Cortland the daughter of the late Grover and Katheryn McNiff Crane.
Mrs. Porter had been a lifelong resident of Cortland and a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Mary dedicated her life to her family, she had cared for her special daughter Katie until her death in 2006. Mrs. Porter who became very interested in support groups for people with disabilities was instrumental in the formation of the Special Children's Center here in Cortland. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.
Mrs. Porter is survived by her son Gerald (Jill) of Cortland and daughter Bonnie Foote also of Cortland, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Porter was predeceased by her husband George Porter, her son Ronald and daughter Katie and son-in-law Jack Foote.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, Cortland; interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland, Saturday 9:00- 9:30 AM.
