NAMES.
Jesse W. Booker, Jr.
Born Martinsville 1886.
Educated at Randolph Macon and National Business College.
He became affiliated with the firm of J. W. Booker, his fathers' business in 1906, and at his fathers' retirement in 1922 he became owner and manager.
In 1916, he was married to Miss Claude Clanton -they have 3 children.
Mr. Booker is a charter member of the Retail Merchants Association, a Mason, a Shriner, Rotarian, Methodist and for 18 years a member of the City Council.
Some of these days when you take a run down where they all fish, and you see someone patiently waiting for a nibble, holler "Wheeoo," and you'll be surprised!
His one hobby is fishing.

BOOKER FUNERAL RITES SET
HONOR GUARD TO PARTICIPATE
Funeral services for former Mayor Jesse W. Booker, Jr., 71, who died yesterday in Martinsville General Hospital after a long decline in health, will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the First Methodist Church. The Rev. R. H. Forrester will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood.
An honor guard composed of City Policemen and firemen will attend the rites.
A son of the late Jesse W. and Sallie C. Booker, he spent his entire life in Martinsville where he engaged in business until several years ago when he retired.
He served on the City Council for 20 years after which he was elected mayor, which position he filled 12 years.
Mr. Booker was a charter member of the Martinsville Kiwanis Club and was also a former member of the Rotary Club. He was a member of the First Methodist Church for 41 years and for approximately 20 years he served on the official board there.
He was also a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
Mr. Booker leaves his wife, two daughters, two sisters and three brothers.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted.
