Mrs. Dorothy Snipes, age 91, of Ellaville, GA died Thursday evening, March 12, 2009 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA. Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Hopewell Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Graton Helms and Reverend Dan MacMinn will officiate.
Mrs. Snipes was born July 25, 1917 in Schley Co. the daughter of Lawrence H. and Lillian L. Tondee. She was a resident of Schley County for 88 years and had made her home at Gardens at Calvary for the past three years. Mrs. Snipes was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church. Mrs. Snipes was preceded in death by her husband, H. McDonald 'Mack' Snipes; son, Donald Snipes; brothers, Wilson Tondee, Vigil Tondee, Frank Tondee, Tom Tondee, Rufus Tondee, Hugh Tondee; and sisters Wilmouth Lightner, Kate Fender, and Lillian Stewart.
Survivors include one son, David Snipes and wife Pat of Columbus, GA; daughter in law, Betty Snipes Harrison and husband Talbot of Ellaville. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Becky MacMinn and husband Dan, Barry Snipes, Kevin Snipes and wife, LaRae, Alan Snipes and wife Michele. Eight great-grandchildren, Danielle MacMinn, Ben MacMinn, Richard MacMinn, Ashley Snipes, Maddie Snipes, Brody Snipes, Jake Snipes, and Luke Snipes also survive.
Pallbearers will include Barry Snipes, Kevin Snipes, Alan Snipes, Ben MacMinn and Richard MacMinn.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, c/o Elaine Phillips, P. O. Box 22, Ellaville, GA 31806 or to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909. The family will be meeting at 6971 Concord Church Road, Ellaville.
