"Monday, Oct.20,1746. Abel Avery, of Groton, was accidently Shott to death att Collins's in the house Exercising the freelock which hapened to be Loaden. he was giving the word of Command to a Saylor who shott him thro the head & Died immediately in a few minutes. Never spake a word."- Hempstead's Diary, Page 469.
