Frank E. Bickel, 81, Spanish-A,erican War veteran, died yesterday morning in St. Joseph HOspital on the 60th anniversary of his discharge from the Army after that conflict. He was ill three weeks.

He had served in the Puerto-Rican Campaign with the Co. D of the 16th Pennsylvania Volunteers and was discharged on March 4, 1899. He was on of the four surviving members of Colonel William C. Gilmore Camp 93 Spanish-American War Veterans. He was active in veterans' affairs and was a member of the Lorain County Veterans Board.

Mr. Bickel was born in Oil City, Pa., and had livedin Lorain 46 years. His late residence was 214 West 22nd St. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

A sheet metal worker by trade he had worked in the building tgrade both in Pennsylvania and after coming to Lorain. His last employment was as a foreman in the sheet metal department of the American Stove Co. for 20 years. He retired five years ago.

Survivors are his wife Pearl, to whom he was married 58 years in March, 1858; three daughters, Mrs. Carl Bridenstine and Mrs. David Chappell, both of Lorain and Mrs. Henry Wilms, Amherst; three grandchildren and three great-granchildren.

Friends will be received in the Reidy-Scanlan Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. The REv. ralph M. Gray, pastor of the First Methodist Church, will officiate at services Saturday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in ELmwood Cemetery where the VFW Post 451 will conduct military rites at the grave.
