Robert D. Clark, 67, of R.R. 1, Arenzville, died at 5 a.m. Monday, March 20, 1989 at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1921, in rural Virginia, son of Horace and Mary Hamilton Clark. He married Roberta Wheelan on Dec. 29, 1944, in Quonset Point, R.I., and she survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Mrs. Mary Clark of Arenzville; four sons, John of Houston, Texas, Drew of Boulder, Colo., Tony (Dave) Clark of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jeffrey of Bloomington, Ind.; four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Sara) Burrus of Urbana, Mrs. John (Annis) Householder of Romney, W.V., Martha (Marti) of Springfield and Mrs. Steve (Molly) Daniel of Oxford, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, John M. of rural Arenzville; and two sisters, Mrs. Nelson (Ruby) Willingham of Paris, Mo., and Mrs. Vince (Mary Lou) Penza of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Ralph.
Mr. Clark was engaged in farming west of Arenzville for many years and, until his retirement in 1984, served as the executive vice president of First National Bank of Arenzville. He was a member of the St. Fidelis Catholic Church of Arenzville, a charter member of the Arenzville American Legion Post and past president of the Cass-Scott-Morgan-Greene County Bankers Federation.
He served in the United States Navel Reserves, including active duty during World War II aboard the USS Ticonderoga. He attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Illinois College in 1942. He is also a graduate of the Illinois Bankers School of Banking at Southern Illinois University and the Madison School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home, with burial at Arenzville North Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday, with family to meet friends 7-9 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Cass County Cancer Society or Illinois College.
