T.E. was born on Aug. 30, 1926, to Earl and Johnnie Mae Bartlett. He was raised as a preacher's kid and moved all over Alabama with his family while his dad pastored churches. He served his country in the Korean War as a "Seabee" in the U.S. Navy.
He married Louise McPherson and they raised two daughters. They were married over 53 years before her death in 1997.
T.E. followed in his father's footsteps as a pastor after he was called to preach in 1960. While pastoring, T.E. held down a full-time job at Allis Chalmers, and for a short time, at Reeves Rubber Co. He ran revivals all over Sand Mountain, Brindlee Mountain and as far away as Ohio. He pastored in the United Methodist Church for many years. He received a degree from Birmingham Southern and Pastor of the Year while at Braishers near Arab. Among some of the other churches he pastored were: Red Hill, Southside in Guntersville, Marvin and Smith Chapel. In the Congregational Methodist Association, he pastored Union, Union Hill and Brashers Chapel. He returned to his Baptist roots and pastored Victory Baptist Church. He filled in as interim at Antioch, Kilpatrick and Calvary Baptist churches. He was a member at New Home. T.E. made two trips to the Holy Land. He guided the second trip.
T.E. married Gail Hedgepeth Scott in 1999. They enjoyed 11 years together and then Gail lovingly cared for him until his death.
T.E. missed getting out and visiting people after his illness. He never lost his yearning to share the loved of Christ with people and minister to them as he could. He often witnessed to people he met while receiving care for his illness.
T.E. leaves his wife, Gail Scott Bartlett; two daughters, Renee (Dale) Croft and Vicki (Rex) Odell; stepson, Jeff (Cathy) Scott; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey (Farrell) Cole and Arris Greer; one brother, Charlie (Gwen) Bartlett.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his mother, Johnnie Mae Bartlett; his father, Earl Bartlett Sr.; sisters, Ann McDougal, Doris Grizzard, Mildred Minor and Geraldine Greer; brothers, Harold Bartlett and J.C. Bartlett.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday at Albertville Memorial Chapel with burial at Belcher's Chapel.
Daddy, we will miss you until we see you again.
