Source; Christian County Illinois, (Will of Daniel B. Leigh) 23 rd. day of June 1854
Be it remembered that Daniel B. Leigh, County of Christian, State of Illinois, being in failing health, but sound mind and memory, on this 23 rd. day of June 1854, call upon Joseph H. Clark and James L. Clark, to hear testimony which we did, then and there, and declare in all thus.
First; it is my will all debts be paid, to much of my effects and property that is mine and to that purpose be appropriated, and expenditures by me do herein after named, to cut a tombstone, with suitable inscription cut there in, at the grave of my, Father and Mother
2nd;, Its my will I bequeath a sufficient amount for a gravestone of my Own grave, and that of my Wife, and Grave of my Child, and also my brother, DAVID LEIGH.
3rd; I give to Robert Lowe, a sufficient amount for six months schooling, to be paid out of my estate,
4th; it is my will, my brothers Albert and Emanuel T. Leigh, and sister Indiana Hayward, be fully paid for their trouble incurred during the time I remained at their houses respectfully since my sickness.
5th; It is my will, I hereby bequeath all my property as herein interred to pay my brothers and sisters now living, in equal amounts, I appoint James H. Hill Esq. the executor of my last will, in case he does not qualify, I appoints Joseph H. Clark, hereby subscribed in writing in presence of Joseph Clark and James Clark
3rd. day of July 1854, signed: J. H. Clark, and James L. Clark, STATE OF ILLINOIS CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Joseph Clark and James Clark being and testament dispose and say the foregoing will of DANIEL B. LEIGH on the 23 day of June 1854 in his sickness, called on you to hear his testament, of his last will, the same being of sound mind and memory, at the time of making from memory.
State of Illinois Christian County; (James Gatewood and Wm. C.... being duly sworn say on oath that DANIEL B. LEIGH, the testator in the foregoing will, died on the 30th of June 1854, and the said will was returned to writing on the 3rd of July 1854, where of the making and signing of this affidavit sworn and subscribed before me this 3rd. July 1854, Signed by. W. C . Perrigan? (cant make out name for sure)Marilyn, and J. Gatewood
Note: I believe there is a mix up on the Cemetery markers for David D. Leigh, because Daniel in his will in June of 1854, asked that a marker be made for his brother David's grave, but the marker on David Leigh's grave says he died 30 August of 1854, how is that possible since Daniels marker say he died 30 June 1854, and his will was made June 1854, unless David Leigh's marker reads 1851 ? but I never found David Leigh on the 1850 Census any where in Illinois, another mystery, Marilyn
