Our precious Sweetheart and Mom, LaBerta Whitlock died peacefully in her home Wednesday, October 11, 2000.

Born Sept. 5, 1916 in St. George, Utah, the fifth of seven children of John C. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Macfarlane Benson.

A descendant of original Southern Utah pioneers, she always treasured her Dixie heritage.

Married Loyd Charles Whitlock on May 7, 1937 in the Manti LDS Temple and loved and supported him in all of his professional career in education.

LaBerta and Loyd reared their three sons: Woodrow, Clark and Douglas, in Provo, Utah and then relocated to Salt Lake City in 1962.

LaBerta was an executive secretary at both BYU and University of Utah and then with the Salt Lake City School District until retirement. Above all, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker and neighbor.

Always active in the LDS Church, Relief Society and DUP. Loved her yard, flowers and doing fine needlework.

Survived by her husband, Loyd; son, Loyd Clark and his wife Ellie, Springville and their three children: Shaunna (Lawrence) Syphus, Michael (Shannon) Whitlock and Paul (Tracie) Whitlock; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Helen (George) Toland, Bountiful.

Also surviving are her special brothers and sisters-in-law: Morris and Elaine Whitlock, Mavis and Orr Hill, Grant Rasband and Lucy Whitlock. Her son, Douglas, died in 1960, the result of a tragic automobile accident. Son, Woodrow died in 1984 and his wife, Noel, in 1985. Brothers Clark, Menzies and Howard and sisters, Berneice and Hortense, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive, where friends may call on Sunday 5-7 p.m. and on Monday 8:45-9:45 a.m., prior to services.
