Ruby was born to Frank Dovin Bass, Sr. (1878-1962) & Daisy Dean Laughlin Bass (1884-1962), who married on April 30, 1905, in Morgan Mill, TX. The family moved to the New Mexico Territory by covered wagon and homesteaded north of Tatum in 1911. There, they lived on a four-section ranch eight miles from Tatum on the Portales Road. They were members of Tatum Church of Christ.
Ruby graduated from Tatum, NM, high school. She married Arvil E. Marley (1906-2000) about 1929. He had been her high school classmate. They had one daughter, Fay Evelyn Marley Eure.
Ruby Fay and her sister, Eula Mae, married brothers. Ruby married Arvil Marley, and Eula married David Marley.
