Funeral services were held in the Valhalla Funeral Home chapel at Hayti Wednesday afternoon for Joseph Hamilton Spears, 84, who died at his home there on Sunday, March 6. The Rev. Artie Walls of Gobler conducted the service and burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
Mr. Spears was born August 15, 1871, at Sneedsville, Tenn. and had been a resident of the Hayti community for about 40 years.
He is survived by three sons, Lester Spears of Hayti, Harvey Spears of Detroit and Robert Spears of San Carlos, Ariz.; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Arledge and Mrs. Nellie Foster of Detroit, Mrs. Alice Pease of Niles, Mich., Mrs. Mary Jones of Granite City, Ill. and Mrs. Martha Lucy of Napa, Calif.; four sisters, three brothers, 22 grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
