The Normangee Star Vol. XXV No. 21 April 1, 1937
Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Batson
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church here Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Frances Batson, with interment in the Batson Cemetery about three miles southwest of town. Mrs. Batson was a long-time resident of this place at "The Old Town." Later the family moved to town buying the place where J. D. Hines now lives. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Batson has made her home with her children in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Mathis.
Funeral services were held here at 3 p.m. Saturday, conducted by Rev. C. E. Bullock, assisted by Rev. R. N. Davis.
Miss Frances Elizabeth Rogers, was born in Madison county in the Tenmile Community, July 1, 1858, being nearly 79 years of age at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Mr. Seth Batson, September 21, 1875, who preceded her in death in 1931. Eleven children were born to this union, eight of whom survive.
They are C. L. Batson of Dallas, Mrs. J. G. Toland of Woodsboro, Mrs. Corrie Allen of Austin, Mrs. Pearl Campbell of Fort Worth. Mrs. Myrtle Lewis of Houston, Mrs Velma Knight of Normangee, Dr. Wade R. Batson of Mathis, and Miss Ellene Batson of Woodsboro. All of these with their families were present at the funeral except Dr. Wade Batson, whose health would not permit his coming. Also two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Kate Batson and Mrs. Maude Batson.
Mrs. Batson was a sister of the father of Dr. Joe, Jack and Jim Rogers and Mrs. Covington. Judge J. T. Harrington and Mrs. Janie Barlow were children of another sister. Mrs. Batson was the daughter of Joe and Janie Rogers, early pioneers of Texas and of this community. She was converted at the age of 7, and was a faithful member of the Baptist church here during her long and useful life.
Thus, another of those noble souls who labored and built the early life of old Rogers Prairie, and of Normangee has passed into the Great Beyond. One of the most beloved is with us no more. And only a little while, and others of us will follow.
