Purple Heart For Local Veteran
The Purple Heart Medal was awarded to John G. Rohrer, 14 N. Lime St., recently for wounds received in action against the enemy on February 20, 1943, in North Africa during the battle of the Kasserine Pass.
Mr. Rohrer, who received an honorable discharge from the service on Dec. 2, 1943, was with the 19th Combat Engineers - Regiment which was attached to the First Armored Division under the late General Patton. Going overseas in August 1942, Rohrer served first in England and Ireland, and went into Africa during the invasion.

John Rohrer, 61, Expires In His Home
John Gamber Rohrer Sr., 61, a well-known real estate title searcher, died suddenly at his home at 2133 West Ridge Drive, Lancaster, early Saturday morning.
Rohrer held a real estate broker's license and was self-employed as a title searcher with offices at 48 E. Orange St., for the past 10 years.
He held memberships in BPOE Post 134, Lancaster, Millersville Manor Post VFW 7294; Conestoga Country Club and American Legion Post 4185, Mount Joy.
Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Paris H. and Mary S. Gamber Rohrer. He was a resident of the Lancaster area most of his life.
He was a veteran of World War II with service in the North Africa campaign for which he received the Order of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by a daughter, York, and a son, at home; a brother , Paris G. Rohrer of Neffsville; three sisters, Esther R. wife of Elmer S. Wenger and Miss Dorothy E. Rohrer, both of Lancaster and Gertrude A. wife of Simon N. Hertzler, Daytona Beach, FL and a number of nieces and nephews.
