Services were held Wednesday, April 26 at Walker United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mike Townsley and the Rev. David Siler, Burial was in Troy Mills Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters, Merna Kramer and husband, Donovan of Watertown, Wisconsin, Marian Stott of Memphis, Missouri and Norma Fry and husband Earl of Cedar Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Sally Hemphill of Walker; 10 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Annabelle Fritz of Marshalltown and Mary Buck of Lancaster, California; two brothers, Marvin Shaffer of Walker and Alan Shaffer of Cedar Rapids; and special friend, Mary Porter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James Helphill; three brothers, Donald, Gerald and Dale Shaffer; two sisters, Ethel Fay and Mina Beatty; and a granddaughter, Susan Kramer. Born September 13, 1907 in Troy Mills to Mathias and Alice Dudley Shaffer, she married Harold Hemphill on July 3, 1926 in Walker. He died June 1, 1979. A lifelong resident of Walker, Winifred was a homemaker. She was a member of the Methodist Church, R.A.R.E. Club, Spencer Grove Club and Maple Grove Club.
