Sgt. David J. Luff Jr., 29, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Nov. 21 in Tikrit, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. David had served in the Army for eight years and was scheduled to come home in February for two weeks. The Hamilton High School graduate also has a brother serving in the Army. He is survived by his wife, Katie Luff and son, Aiden D. Luff of Hamilton; his parents, David James and Lucy Sharon Luff, both of Hamilton; two brothers, Jeffrey W. Luff of Kettering and John D. Luff of Georgetown, Texas; a sister, Stacy (Nick) Garrison of Hamilton; a grandmother, Dorothy M. Luff of Hamilton; a grandfather, Reuben Bailey of Oxford; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Judy and Champ Halcomb of Hamilton; a brother-in-law, Dakota Halcomb of Hamilton; two sisters-in-law, Kristen Halcomb-Haacke and Michele Halcomb, both of Hamilton; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lawrence A. Luff and Lucille Bailey.
