Laverne Gordon Aspenson, 83, died on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the Syverson Lutheran Home, Eau Claire.
Laverne was born on October 25, 1926 to Gordon and Unnie (Kvigne) Aspenson in Prairie du Chien, WI. He was a 1943 graduate of La Crosse Central High School. After high school he enlisted in the Navy, serving two years on the battleship USS Menard in the South Pacific.
Laverne married Bonnie Berg on November 5, 1949 in La Crosse. After marriage Laverne and his family moved to Rice Lake, where he worked at Socony Mobile Oil Company as a sales representative. He later moved to Eau Claire and started his own business, Adding Machine and Typewriter Company, which later became Office Products Company. Laverne later sold the business to his son-in-law, Chuck, but he remained active in the business up until his retirement in 2008. In addition to operating his business, Laverne owned and operated the Grandview Resort in Sarona for six years. Laverne enjoyed traveling with his wife, Bonnie, golf, and had a love of cars.
Laverne is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Nancy (Charles) Helfenstein of Eau Claire, Peggy Aspenson of Eau Claire, Dawn (Michael) Kupka of Madison, WI; sister, Betty (Stan) Breiwick of Racine; brother, Howard (Pat) Aspenson of Belvidere, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gilman Aspenson.
The funeral service for Laverne will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 23, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Kurt Jacobson officiating.
Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Interment will be at Rest Haven Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 305.
The family would appreciate memorials being made to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
The family of Laverne would like to sincerely thank the staff, nurses, and nursing assistants at Syverson Lutheran Home for the comfort and care given to Laverne.
