Ned G. Algien, 72, lifetime Avondale resident born on May 23, 1932, passed away on March 22, 2005, at Parkview Medical Center.

Ned was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Gramps" and to his friends and co-workers he was "Chimbas." Ned was a retired ammo inspector at the Pueblo Army Depot. He loved to watch the Denver Broncos with his grandchildren and enjoyed his daily walks and workouts. Ned also was a volunteer at McHarg Community Center in Avondale.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ned and Mary Algien; a sister, Evelyn
Rael; nephew, Manny Staffiero; and brother-in-law, Ross Mondragon. Ned is
survived by his children, Loretta Algien, Cindy Algien, Bernadette (William)
Marquez, Brenda (Paul) Padilla, Michael (Veronica) Algien; two brothers, Daniel
(Linda) Algien and Phillip (Gen) Algien; five sisters, Flora (Ray) Flores, Patty
(Edward) Baca, Geraldine (Manuel) Staffiero, Dolores (Gilbert) Avalos and Grace
Mondragon; former wife, Isabel Baldo; grandchildren, Eric (Olivia) Mares, Jacob
Algien, Carlos Mares, Adam Algien, Joseph Marquez, Anthony and Cassandra
Padilla; five great-grandchildren, Anna and Ashley Algien, Naomi and Eric Mares
and Isaiah Algien; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Visitation, noon until 5 p.m. today, at the funeral home. Rosary vigil, 7 p.m. today, and funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. John O'Flynn, as
celebrant; both services, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Avondale. Military
honors at graveside by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team, St. Vrain Cemetery.
